How do I use the Settings SEO tab?
Optimize URLs, generate meta tags, and create sitemaps
1. Navigate to Settings - SEO to enable permalinks for optimized URLs, add an HTML suffix, generate default Open Graph Meta Tags for social media, set a "lang" attribute for search engines, generate a sitemap file for search engines, and create a robots.txt file for search crawlers
2. Enable permalinks with the corresponding checkbox. The permalink is the full URL you see – and use – for any given post, page, or other pieces of content on your site. It’s a permanent link, hence the name permalink. It could include your domain name (ministrydesigns.com) plus what’s called a slug, the piece of the URL that comes after the domain name (https://ministrydesigns.com/about/). This might include a date or a category or anything you please. A simple permalink makes a URL easy to understand and share.
3. If needed, enable the html suffix for your pages so they look like this: https://ministrydesigns.com/about.html. While using permalinks is essential, adding a .html suffix is optional and does not give any benefits in terms of SEO
4. The "Generate Default Open Graph Meta Tags" checkbox automatically creates basic Open Graph tags for all your pages using the page’s existing content, such as the page title, description, and featured image.
When this option is enabled, you don't have to manually set Open Graph tags for every page—the system will fill them in with default values based on your page settings.
However, if you want custom Open Graph tags (like a specific title, description, or image for social media previews), you can disable this checkbox and manually set Open Graph tags on individual pages, which will override the defaults.
5. Specify the HTML lang attribute. It tells Search Engines in what language the content of your website is written in. The language attribute affects all site's pages.
6. A sitemap is a file where you can list the pages of your site to tell search engines about the structure of your site content.
You can generate the sitemap file directly in the admin panel, under the Settings - SEO section.
7. Sitemap Settings allows you to change the priority tag (signal the importance of individual pages in the website to Google and other search engines) and frequency (describe how often a URL is likely to be updated).
The following options are available for priority: 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0
The following options are available for frequency: always, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, never
Sitemap.xml is not a dynamic file - if you added any new content on your website or changed the priority and frequency for the pages after generating a sitemap in the past, click save and generate a sitemap file again to have an up-to-date sitemap
8. External Sitemaps allow you to add URL pages that are created outside of the Omega by Ministry Designs template control panel. For example, one of your menu items links to a page that was created using another site builder. Click "Add" and paste the URL to your external sitemap
9. Select the "Recommended robots.txt" checkbox to include a default robots.txt file for your website
10. If you need web crawlers not to access and index your website, select the corresponding checkbox
11. Select from the dropdown which sitemap should be included in the robots.txt file. A System Sitemap and a Custom Sitemap are available as options. If you select Custom Sitemap, specify the URL to the custom sitemap.xml file
12. If needed, add custom code in robots.txt file if you need to include additional rules in robots.txt
13. Click "Save and Generate" to generate your robots.txt file
14. Click "Save Changes" to confirm the changes
