How to Create Custom Taxonomies in a Blog?

Expand your blog’s organization with custom taxonomies

1. Settings - The Taxonomies tab allows you to create new taxonomies for the Blog. Click the Taxonomies tab.

2. If needed, you can edit the existing Category and Tag taxonomies by clicking the pencil icon

3. You can edit the Display Name and Website Page URL, however, you can not edit the Type and System Name for these predefined taxonomies

Display Name in Singular - is how this taxonomy will be displayed in Taxonomies.

Display Name in Plural - is how this taxonomy will be displayed as a new tab in the Blog.

Website Page URL - allows you to edit the URL for the taxonomy.

Click "Apply" to confirm the changes.

4. Click "Add" to add a new taxonomy.

5. Select from the dropdown if you need the Taxonomy to be applied One per Post (will be a category taxonomy) or Multiple per Post (will be a tag taxonomy).

6. Specify the Display Name in Singular and Plural.

7. Check if the System Name in Singular and Plural is correct. This name is mostly used in the control panel for internal links. The end user will not see these names.

Click "Apply" to confirm the changes and add the taxonomy

8. After it is created, you can see that you now have a new tab called "Days" where you can create more Days category taxonomies. This works the same as Categories and Tags

Please note that in case you want to delete your new taxonomy, make sure that you have deleted the taxonomies within the new tab first, and once the new taxonomy is empty, go to Settings - Taxonomies and click the bin icon to delete it

9. Now you can go to Posts, select a specific Blog Post, and apply a Day category taxonomy.

10. While editing a Blog Post, select the required Day category from the dropdown.

11. Click "Save" to confirm the changes.
